Yukon is also a great place for fishing with some of the most popular fishing lakes and rivers including Braeburn Lake, Cottonwood River, Hidden Lakes, Rancheria River and Takhini River. Boating, Northern Lights, wildlife and fishing, what more could you ask for on your Yukon adventure. Just remember to have your Yukon boating license with while your on the water.

Yukon River

The Yukon River is the longest river in the Yukon and as you might have guessed it is where the territory got its name from. It was the main means of transport during the Klondike Gold Rush but nowadays it is popular with recreational boaters. The Yukon River is a wonderful place to explore the amazing scenery and wildness the Yukon has to offer. Hop in your boat, pack your Yukon boating license and set off on your adventure exploring this historic river for hours or days on end.

Cruising through river bends you are surrounded by mountains and wildlife along the shoreline. The Yukon River is a great place to stop and catch many species of fish, with salmon being the most popular. This 3,190 km long river is steeped in history making it an amazing experience for all boaters.

Lake Laberge

Lake Laberge is a widening of the Yukon River and is north of the city of Whitehorse, Yukon. It is best known from Robert Service’s poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee”.

This 50km long lake is usually a starting point for boaters beginning their Yukon River adventure. With many campsites on Lake Laberge’s shoreline, it is also a great spot to enjoy a few days of relaxing and fishing.

Schwatka Lake

Schwatka Lake is just south of Whitehorse and is also a widening of the Yukon River. It is a reservoir created by damming the Yukon River back in 1958 for hydro electric power and now it continues to provide electrical power today. Lake Schwatka is a hugely popular recreational spot with locals and tourists, with many enjoying the lake by boat, canoe or kayak. Fishing and birdwatching are both favourite pastimes of boaters on this lake. The convenient boat launch and pier make it a perfect spot for a day on the water.

Southern Lakes Region

Marsh and Tagish Lakes are the most popular lakes in the Southern Lakes Region. Boating between the two lakes is easy as they are close to each other and connected by the Tagish River. With Tagish Lake over 100km long and Marsh over 30km long, boaters love to spend a few days exploring these lakes. After a day of boating, fishing and swimming there are plenty of campgrounds and rental cabins in the Southern Lakes Region to rest up for the night.

Yukon is home to the mighty Yukon River, so grab your Yukon Boating License and go explore.
