Is the Alberta boating exam hard?
No, the Alberta boating exam is not hard. MyBoatCard’s Transport Canada approved online boating course covers everything you need to know to pass your online boating exam.
The exam is open-book and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. The passing score is 75% (38 out of 50). If you fail don’t worry you can retake the exam. Your one-time fee includes unlimited exam retries and unlimited access to the online course material.
Can I still get the Pleasure Craft Operator Card if I don't have an Alberta driver's license?
Yes, you do not need to have a driving license in order to get a Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

Can you drive a boat without a license in Alberta?

What age do I need to be to get a boating license in Alberta?
There is no minimum age for obtaining a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. As long as you are old enough to take the online boating safety course and pass the online exam you are old enough to get a boater licence in Alberta. Remember, your license never expires!
Are there age and horsepower restrictions in Alberta?
In Alberta, horsepower restrictions apply to operators under 16 years of age. Youths less than 16 years of age may not operate a boat in Alberta with motors over certain horsepower limits unless someone 16 years of age or older, and certified, is directly supervising them from inside the boat.
You must be 16 years of age or older to operate a PWC / jet ski in Alberta.
Is the Alberta boater license valid in all other Canadian provinces?
Your Pleasure Craft Operator Card is valid in all Canadian provinces and territories.
How long does it take to receive my boating license in Alberta?
You will receive your temporary Transport Canada Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) immediately after you passed the boating safety exam. The course and exam take on average 3-5 hours to complete. You can print your temporary boating license at home and go boating right away. The temporary PCOC expires 60 days from the date you passed the test.
